I’ve got a love affair with unique vintage pieces and I’m not going to be shy about it. Vintage shopping has always been a favourite of mine and it all started when I realised I liked things from my mother’s wardrobe more than what I saw in store. Isn’t that a strange feeling for a 16 year old! One of the first few pieces my mother handed down to me included this mint green dress with little pink and purple flowers on it, which she received as a gift from one of her cousins when she was in her 30s. It has a softly spoken, super feminine print with an intricately pleated bib and was pretty much the first vintage dress I ever owned. Since then, I have always been on the hunt of cutesy little frocks like these which will accompany me for years. This light polka dot jacket was another one of those pieces that have become a staple in my wardrobe. I found this whilst op-shopping a couple of years ago. And I must admit, op-shopping is hard. Sometimes I will shop around for ages and end up buying things ‘I like more than the things I don’t like’ in the shop, as going through racks and racks of often strange-fitting, odd garments sometimes confuse my thrifting radar! However, this was one of those purchases that I got lucky with and I just love the loose fit and delicate flower buttons. I can just imagine how sad I will be if one suddenly fell off – I should probably go and reinforce them now!

Recently, I was invited to the media preview for the new Zara store in Chadstone. It’s really exciting to see more of my favourite international brands becoming more accessible as they make their way around Australia. The layout of their new store was so spacious and clean, making navigating your way through the store a breeze. Amongst the glittering array of their newest collection, it was the printed white blouses which caught my eye. I have a thing for nature and when shirts start throwing images of birds, zebras and puppies at me, I really can’t help but want to take them home. I had a hard choice choosing between the bird print, zebra print and puppy print – they were all essentially the same shirt and in fact, I already have the the plain ivory silk version of it from when I was in London earlier this year! But another shirt just can’t hurt. I ended up buying this zebra print one, and it has been serving me well paired with my pinafores and overalls, under vintage jumpers or even on its own as shown here!

Also, I seem to go through this major denim phase every now and then, which is so unlike me but so me at the same time. Sometimes it’s just the practicality and sleekness that emanates from the skinny cut jeans. Just last week my friend looked at me in class, puzzled, and exclaimed, “You’re wearing jeans two weeks in a row?!” Well little did she know, the week before when she skipped class, I was wearing jeans as well! So yes, it’s safe to admit that I am in another denim phase and if you’re looking to add one soft shade of denim in your wardrobe this season, I’m voting lilac for you!

melbourne spring fashion week

Just last week was Melbourne Spring Fashion Week and I had the pleasure of attending a couple of the evening designer series shows. I wanted to share with you two of my favourite collections: Christine and Aurelio Costarella.

Christine’s print frenzy collection was an absolute delight. I’m all for prints, even better, when they clash. The cowgirl like tassel backs, scarf print and quirky conversational patterns were everything that I wanted in my wardrobe. I am an utterly in love with the hugely cat-eyed sunglasses that featured throughout the collection. I need some of these, asap. The Hawaiian inspired colours are just so fresh as well!

I unfortunately missed out on Aurelio Costarella’s show at MBFWA earlier this year so it was great to have the chance to see it on the catwalk in Melbourne. The pom pom headpieces were the highlight of the show and I just loved the intricate detailing on every piece. Ruffles, lace, lingerie inspired corsets and texture on texture were just beautiful put together. The colours were very royal and especially that citrus green – oh I can’t wait to sneak some of this colour into my Summer threads!

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend, I myself have been super busy, but will be back with an outfit post in just a couple of days :)
