The more I explore Melbourne, the more I discover. Who knew that there would be a massive pink lake hidden behind the trees of Westgate Park, only moments from the city centre? Until last week, certainly not me, despite living in Melbourne my entire life! Personally, I would have imagined that I would need to travel hours to the middle of the desert or some secluded area to witness a natural phenomenon like this. However, it seems Melbourne’s actually full of hidden surprises – so many of which can be discovered by simply venturing minutes out from the city’s heart (hi, sunflower field!).

The water here is as overpoweringly pink in real life and is really just so ethereal and outer-worldly. Thankfully enough, there’s actually a rational explanation behind the supernatural colour – an interaction between harmless algae and halobacterium, which causes the secretion of a red pigment. On hot summer days, the pink colour is at its strongest as the water evaporates, increasing the colour concentration. I’m not sure how much longer this lake will be shining pink, as it returns back to normal during autumn as the weather cools down and the rain comes to visit. So if you’re looking to visit, definitely swing by soon. Hope you guys enjoy this pretty sight and let me know how you go if you do make it there!

I actually thought you had travelled to western Australia because we have quite a few pink lakes here & I heard we’re the only place in the world that does. It’s brilliant you found one near Melbourne though! I can’t believe how pink it is!! Your outfit matches so perfectly! Did you match it for the occasion? haha

Oh my gosh that is so beautiful! I remember seeing the pink lake first on Gary Pepper and have wanted to visit ever since–and these photos are not helping my wanderlust, either! Your outfit is so adorable and I don’t know how you resisted the urge not to jump in!

WHAT?! Although I’m not particularly a fan of the colour pink, this is undeniably gorgeous! I’ve seen it floating around instagram for a while now and I’m so happy you’ve chosen this an outfit post backdrop. I don’t know about you, but since becoming a style blogger, I find it quite hard to see a beautiful place and not think “Oh my! That would be a gorgeous backdrop!”

But maybe that’s just me LOL
