The view when leaving Malcesine via ferry
Picturesque Malcesine is known for being one of the more romantic towns on Lake Garda. It’s on the east side of Lake Garda on the upper half of the lake and is about a one hour bus ride from Garda Town. Of course, it’s pretty as a picture here (Italy is really a land of beauty) and walking through Malcesine’s cobblestone streets will always lead you to gorgeous locally made ceramic stores and countless opportunities to stop for gelato. So aside from picking up some of the nicest ceramic ware you will ever come across (# don’t even get me started on what I couldn’t fit in my suitcase home), do also:
1) Visit the pebbled beach which can be accessed by a side alley up on the northern side of town
2) Have pizza at one of the many popular pizzerias. Most of the places in the old town part of Malcesine fill up pretty fast so if you’re eating during peak dining time, then you could try your luck Pizzeria Ristorante Ristoro which is great and just outside old town and quite possibly the biggest restaurant we ate at all holiday (most dining establishments in European towns are tiny!)
4) Visit Monte Baldo via cable car – the view up top is so ‘bellissimo’ (as exclaimed by one excited waiter at Ristoro to us) that it’s deserving its very own post up next!
