When it comes to fashion, I’ve always been interested in different textures and fabrics. My first encounter with tapestry was when I stumbled upon a vintage purse bag in a material which I had described to my sister as ‘carpet like’. We were at Camberwell Market and I found the bag exciting and different – my sister on the other hand thought it gave severe grandma vibes. Regardless, I bought it. It was only ten dollars so the risk of grandma vibes outweighed the possibility of a pretty, functional and unique bag. Time went by and I started collecting more and more tapestry pieces – a vintage overnight bag I stumbled across in an op shop, a vintage tapestry backpack which I wore religiously to uni at one point in time, a vintage jewellery box with a tapestry cushion embedded in its wooden lid.. yes I owned a lot of odds and ends made out of this very fabric. I eventually got over this whole tapestry craze – I think I had too much of it at the same time. These days I barely ever touch any of the above mentioned bags – though one of my latest arrivals to my wardrobe (this dress) certainly rekindles old memories of when I was so fascinated with this ‘carpet like’ woven fabric.

{Photos: Tom}

All uni students will know that it is nearing that time of the semester where all hell lets loose – textbooks lie open here, there and everywhere, magazines are replaced with past exam papers and you spend more time in the campus library per day than in your bed. Ew. I try not to bore you guys with anything uni related as it’s just not that entertaining however for the past few days all I have been doing is preparing for the storm ahead, before it hits. You know how sometimes your faculty just likes to give you all your exams within a week and by the time you finish your papers, everyone has only just started? Yep, that’s me this semester! In a way it’s a good thing because I’d have a longer Winter break but it also means that I have to fast track the course ASAP and get studying earlier. Not a very exciting occupation, being a student. So in the fleeting moments before I decided it was time to finally start understanding patent specifications, I spent a couple of afternoons out soaking in the beautiful shining afternoon that was Saturday last week. Do you remember just however warm it was? Tom & I went down by the Yarra and happened to come by this pretty weatherboarded restaurant by the water. It was the perfect backdrop for a few photos in this electric blue get-up – one of my favourite colours for this season.

{Photos: Tom}

To me, it seems as if coats always come in the same old block colours: red coats, bottle green coats, black coats, camel coats, navy coats. I’ve always been on the hunt for interesting coats in more exciting colours, prints and textures. For example, right now I am looking for a bright yellow coat, a baby blue coat, geometric printed coats and a duo/tri-tone fur textured coat. It seems so hard to find these sorts of coats without breaking the bank. So needless to say that when I saw this coat on ASOS I happily (and impulsively) snapped it up. Finally, a coat in a print. Now to look for that yellow coat and tri-toned fur coat as well..

{Photos: Tom}

Yep. I broke up with my bangs. I’ve had straight bangs for almost two years now and felt like a change. I felt like I missed my eyebrows just a little. Every time I was due for a haircut I’d think about growing it out instead but I never had the guts (or just patience) to do it. However I After FW, I decided it was time to just give it a go. No one will see me going through that awkward phase of attempting to grow my hair from 5cm long to 50cm long since I’m back to my studious student self.. except for everyone who reads this blog. So uh, please ignore and maybe six months down the track I can start doing more exciting things to these strands of hair instead of attacking it with a handful of bobbies. To be honest I have no idea what exciting things I can do with my hair once I don’t have any bangs at all because the last time my hair was all the same length .. I was about 13. So good luck to me, may the future hold many new and unexpected hairstyles. Suggestions are always welcome to make the process less boring/painful :-)
